Palaeo in the Pub goes EVO DEVO
August 15 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
Palaeo in the Pub events are for anyone and everyone with an interest in science, natural history and/or pubs. Speakers usually reflect a balance of genders, ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Usually, its students and academics from Flinders University presenting, but we’re branching out and bringing someone new to Adelaide for Science Week!
Dr Vera Weisbecker leads her own lab group at the University of Queensland, her research aims to tell the evolutionary story of today’s staggeringly diverse land vertebrates through the lens of developmental biology (“Evo-Devo”), meaning the search for developmental rules that shape vertebrate diversity. This topic is not only of interest to people with a palaeontology background; many aspects of Vera’s work on brain development, evolution of the middle ear, and limbs, are of interest to people working in vertebrate reproduction, ecology and behaviour.
Dr Weisbecker will be presenting some of the interesting aspects of her research to a general audience while Flinders Tav dishes out some nibbles on us! Happy hour specials will be available to all attendees and you don’t have to be a Flinders student to come along. Parking on campus is free after 6pm.
This event is happening thanks to the brilliant support of National Science Week, Big Science Adelaide and Inspiring SA!
